The sketch/character was adapted into a 2000 film, The Ladies Man, which followed the character’s attempts to find love and a suitable outlet for his beloved radio program. Eventually he did get an original character with Leon Phelps, “The Ladies’ Man”, a perpetually horny talk show host who believed himself to be the living definition of what females search for in a man. Simpson, Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey and Erykah Badu on SNL, and one time remarked that he had no character that was identified to him, such as Wayne and Garth being identified to Mike Myers and Dana Carvey. Meadows often spoofed famous personalities including O.J. (This was the record for the longest tenure on the show until it was surpassed by Darrell Hammond in 2005.) Meadows’ lengthy tenure on the show was used as a gag in three monologues when former cast members Phil Hartman and Mike Myers returned to the show to host, and when Alec Baldwin hosted for his twelfth time. In 1991, Meadows landed a spot on Saturday Night Live and would go on to become a longtime cast member, appearing on the program until 2000. Meadows’ start in show business was as a member of The Second City comedy troupe alongside future star Chris Farley. He did it on purpose, because he wanted to leave.Meadows began performing improvisational comedy at the Soup Kitchen Saloon. He said, "I'd play a comedian who insults the president and is 'forced' to leave the country to live in Paris - but he planned it all along. If he were forced to do the show, he knows the role he'd like. Talking about guest spots and series got Meadows to thinking again about an imaginary TV show that is today's Washington. He also co-stars in "No Activity," a sitcom on CBS All Access, the network's streaming service, about two low-ranking cops on a stakeout it was co-created by Meadows' former "SNL" colleague Will Ferrell. The character, Jonathan "Andre" Glascott, proved popular enough that it became the anchor of a spinoff series, called "Schooled," that has been picked up for a 13-episode run as a midseason replacement early next year. That happened with "The Goldbergs," a family-focused ABC sitcom on which Meadows plays a school guidance counselor. In recent years, some of Meadows' guest roles on TV series have grown into recurring characters. I did it for a while, and I passed it on, just as it was passed on to me." I was part of a fraternity of writers and comedians who kept an institution going. "I haven't had that big next thing that would change how people think of me, away from how they first got to know me. "I'm fine with that," he said, chatting on the phone Wednesday afternoon from Detroit. Meadows has been gone from "SNL" since 2000, meaning he's been away from the show for almost twice as long as he was a cast member, but even now, at 57, it remains a defining component of his career. "I have moments of really wanting to do something myself to be a part of some change, and there's points I have to throw up my hands and pray to God that there's somebody out there that is going to do something about what's going on in our country." "I have moments of being inspired - in good and bad ways - then moments of being disappointed," he said. Though not particularly political in his stand-up, Meadows said he is at times moved to muse during his act about the state of the country and the effect the divisiveness is having on the populace. With homes in Detroit and Los Angeles, the latter for as a base for TV work, Meadows travels for comedy appearance several weekends a month, gathering different viewpoints depending on where he's performing.
